5-Pinion vs. 3-Pinion Planetary

5-Pinion Planetary gears offer over 65% increase in torque capacity over a standard 3-Pinion and a sizable advantage over the 4-Pinion planetary. APS has the extra strong pinion washers that will take the abuse of nitrous and supercharging without crushing or breaking.  These 5-Pinion Planetarys, when ordered as part of the APS RaceMaster Transmission, are capable of handling in excess of 850HP.

Completely replace the weaker 22 Degree Standard Duty parts with this Revised 15 Degree Extra Heavy Duty 5-pinion Planetary Overdrive Planetary Gear Set.  Gear set offers significant strength advantage over a 3-Pinion or 4-Pinion planetary. Comes as a complete kit with the Planetary Gears, Ring Gear, Sun Gear, and Torrington Washers. This kit will really beef up what has proven to be the weakest parts of the Mopar RWD transmissions the overdrive section. Can be ordered separately or as an integral part of the APS StreetFighter or RaceFighter Series Transmissions. Make no excuses and don't be fooled by others claiming that the 3-Pinion Planetarys are better - order the best

APS has addressed a weak spot in the late model TorqueFlite transmission where failing intermediate bands have caused the loss of 2nd gear. This issue has become quite prevalent on heavy duty and racing applications where the lugs have been ripped clean off the standard flex band causing a serious failure. Band is finished with a Heavy Duty Red Lining that is both Long Lasting, Heat Resistant and Very "Grippy".  Make this band part of your overhaul or as an option on your APS StreetFighter or APS RaceFighter Transmission.


High Capacity Direct Drums - 46RH/RE

These High Capacity Direct Drums hold an additional clutch over the weaker 3-Clutch direct drum found almost exclusively in today’s 46RE even in the High Performance Dakota R/T’s. This Direct Clutch comes complete with a Special 15 Spring Piston that can hold up to 15 High Performance Piston Return Springs

No Flip Rear Servo with Cushion Blocker (APS Exclusive Part)

 

This item addresses the problem with your manual shift pulling you down for a moment as second gear is applying or having your rear servo piston rolling over in its bore. Not anymore with this special servo kit that comes complete with Teflon Ring, Seal, Servo Piston, Band Apply Stem & Cup, also and Cushion Blocker. Comes fully assembled and Ready to install in a disassembled transmission or can be installed in vehicle provided the OD unit is removed. Available for the 42/44/46 RH/RE Transmissions.


All new Aluminum Accumulator with Block-Off Rod  (APS Exclusive Part)

APS is introducing an all new Aluminum Accumulator with Blocker Rod.  It now has thicker ring lands and machined surfaces. It also uses thicker materials for added strength which makes it one of the best products available.  For improved 1-2 & 2-3 Shifts - (Above and beyond standard shift kits - Works well on stock transmission as well for firmer shifts)

APS Specific Rate Intermediate Servo Spring (APS Exclusive Part)

The APS Specific Rate Intermediate Servo Spring is a part of the APS System of transmission shift correction parts that will give flawless quick shifts. This Special Rate Intermediate Servo Spring when used with other APS Shift Kit items will deliver exemplary shifting qualities normally associated with an early style Hemi transmission rather then a late model slush box. Again it’s the relationship of release and apply timing, overlap minimization, fill rates etc that makes the TorqueFlite or any transmission shift like a champ. This part means that you will get sure and positive engagements into and out of 2nd gear as well as sure and steady 3rd gear applications. This Specific Rate Spring will aid in all performance applications, use with the High Ratio Band Apply Lever for the most dramatic results. This part is one of the key elements in the APS Transmission Shift System.  It is also available as part of the Ultimate Super Shift Kit package. Lifetime Warranty!


APS High Ratio Shift Lever (APS Exclusive Part)

High Ratio Shift Lever

Shift Timing is everything and this Steel Lever not only gives quicker firmer engagement but also adds more holding power over the stock ratio arm by a factor of over 50%. APS has done extensive testing over the years and has determined this High Ratio Shift Lever is the perfect ratio to not only improve the 1-2 shifts but also dramatically improve 2-3 Shifts when used with a shift kit or APS Valve Body. Getting a quality shift on the 1-2 has never been the challenge on the TorqueFlite but rather the 2-3, and this High Ratio Shift Lever really works to correct that. Feel the total performance advantage when used in conjunction with other APS quality transmission shift improver pieces like shift kits or APS Valve Bodies. Lifetime Warranty!

Note: Transmission must be removed to install the High Ratio Shift Lever might be a good time to install a Bracket Fighter High Stall High Efficiency Converter!

Special Note: Never use the 5.0 “Hemi” Ratio Lever on a 500 or 518 Model Transmission it is too "bindy" and anyone who recommends this lever is not building a sound combination of parts.


No Bend Reinforced Band Apply Strut (APS Exclusive Part)

No Bend Reinforced Band Apply Lever

The APS Band Apply Strut is manufactured in such a way that any bending, flexing or breaking, that is normally associated with the stock flat strut, is all but eliminated. This means sure and positive engagements into 2nd gear eliminating the possibility of Flare-ups due to poor band adjustment caused by bending strut issues. It’s a small price to pay for the peace of mind you will get.  They are also available as part of the Ultimate Super Shift Kit package. Lifetime Warranty!


Performance Separator Plate
Far better then stock and made from tempered steel for durability then treated with a zinc plating for total rust prevention with performance calibration built in. Can be used in a stock or modified Gas Powered Truck with 42/44/46/48-RH or RE series transmission.


Brute Force Overdrive Spring
Replaces the Chrysler P/N 4461027 like a glove except its made from a thicker gauge High-Temp material to eliminate direct clutch slip.  Beef up your overdrive unit with this spring available in all APS Racing Transmissions - just say I need Brute Force!  Fits All Late model RWD series transmissions with Overdrive Unit.


Black Racing Band

Modified Switch Valve
This APS exclusive valve corrects the release timing of the Torque Converter Clutch oil release circuit which does not exhaust properly when TCC apply is called for - causing shudder and soft apply.  It can be added to shift kits or valve bodies


NEW High Capacity Direct Clutch Power Pack (APS Exclusive Part)



This new kit offered by APS Precision allows the use of extra clutches in the Direct Drum of your 46RH, 46RE, 47RH, 47RE and 48RE transmissions also we have them for the 727's as well.  With this kit you will be using the High Performance Alto Red Eagle along with matching Kolene Steels. If your original drum held 3 Frictions now you will have High Capacity 4 Clutches.  If your original drum held 4 Frictions now you will have Super High Capacity 5 Clutches. If your original drum held 5 Frictions now you will have Ultra Extreme Capacity 6 Clutches.

This Kit includes:

6 Kolene Steel Plates .068
2 Kolene Steel Plates .085

The different thickness steels allows the fine tuning of the Clutch "Stack Height" for optimum performance! The recommended clearance from Chrysler is

APS Racing Master Rebuild Kits

Premium Racing Master kits for Street Strip feature all the best parts to create a very a heavy duty racing TorqueFlite transmission. While normal OEM grade parts like Borg Warner or Raybestos are acceptable for most general use applications, serious racers should insist on the best. These kits are intended for street/strip dual purpose use

**APS can also supply Racing Only ‘Blue’ Clutches if desired However (Blue clutches may not be used on street driven vehicles!)**

These kits are for extra heavy duty street strip use and feature Red Eagle Racing Clutches with kolene Steels for all clutch packs not just forward and direct clutch drums like other racing master kits. They also come with a Premium rear band, 3 Torrington roller bearings, Both One-Way Clutches, all thrust washers, complete busing kit for (Main and Overdrive sections) complete seal kit (Paper & Rubber)
(Highly recommend sintered cast intermediate band for all performance applications - sold separately)

So why should I specify that my transmission get rebuilt with esoteric parts like Red Eagle Clutches and kolene Steels?

Clutches fail in a High performance application due to excessive heat. Red Eagle Clutches withstand higher temperatures than any other clutch available

Why use APS Racing Master Kits (with Red Eagle Friction and kolene Steels) instead of OEM style kits?

1. Standard Paper Friction Clutches are saturated in phenolic resin and cured. Red Eagles are too but then they receive a second saturation in a silicate that imparts a very high heat resistance to the underlying friction paper

2. Red Eagle are designed to dissipate oil without the necessity of an oil groove, unlike the competition.  The problem with the grooves is that they remove surface area.  Because Red Eagle are of a no groove design by default, they have significant amounts of additional surface area for increased holding capability, increased area for heat dissipation, and increased surface area for shorter lock up time - less Slipping hence less heat!

3. Red Eagle Clutches have a softer more resilient base paper, as such they are much easier on the opposing steels in addition they reduce the instance of the steel plates warping or burning

4. kolene Steels - kolene is a salt bath nitriding process... (Think about a super high end crankshaft it’s always Nitrided!) In more simple terms... A thermo chemical diffusion process, whereby ferrous parts are processed in molten salt with a specific nitrogen potential, it provides a surface treatment that enhances wear and fatigue from 200%-500%... kolene's also offer higher heat resistances and offer increased lubricity
