APS Precision - Custom Built Transmissions
(42/44/46 RH/RE & Older Models)
APS has its transmission assemblies available for custom applications wherein the tolerances are Blueprinted, Special Drums are used with additional clutches, Heavier Duty Planetaries are utilized, racing clutches, high ratio band apply arms, etc. All this again depends on the expected HP/TQ, Vehicle Weight, and gear ratio usage. Furthermore some builders will use the 5.0 Ratio (Hemi Lever) as the misguided belief that somehow more is better. However, in the 46RE transmission this is the wrong application for this arm and the binding that occurs on the 2-3 Shift, that feels like a decent shift, is not and will cause excessive wear to clutching materials. (Pull the pan about 20K miles down the road you will find a nice pile of clutch debris!) To put things into perspective, there should be 12-15 direct clutch piston springs to release direct clutches with 5.0 ratio levers; will 15 springs fit in the 46RE’s piston? Nope! Again any builder of these units should understand that achieving a solid 1-2 Shift has not been as challenging on the TorqueFlite as the 2-3. Only through a combination of carefully selecting shift levers along with proper clearance on the direct drum will one obtain a ‘Perfect Shift’ in the TorqueFlite Additionally, overdrive needs to be properly shimmed with different selective shims again to produce the desired shift as well as promote reliability.
Super Torque Twister Transmissions (ST/T)

APS will be offering a new line of transmissions that we affectionately call
the "Super Torque Twister" Transmission series. They will be including the
6 Pinion Steel Front Planetaries and 6-Pinion Rear OD Planateries. They
also include all of the current APS upgrades along with the upgraded (and
extremely strong) Sun Shell, which is twice as thick for maximum load.
They are rated to handle up to 1200HP/1200Lb Feet of Torque Capable with a 5
clutch Direct drum (Hemi Stuff) that will tear up the competition! The
ST/T transmission will be priced at around $3800 - $4000.

In combination with the APS Performance Valve Body... you can count on a very reliable transmission that can handle well up to 1200HP/1200TQ, and with the adjustable TV shift valve, you can select your shift points from 4800-5400rpm in 200rpm increments. With high HP/TQ applications you will need to change the TQ Converter as well. The factory converter is not capable of reliably handling much over 400HP and should be replaced with a performance converter. APS Torque converters are specifically designed for the application taking into account vehicle weight, desired stall and efficiency requirements.
Our least experienced transmission builder has 20+ years of Hands-On experience in High Performance Automatic Transmissions with primary concentration on the Mopar Transmissions.
All transmissions are bench tested before leaving the shop.

Price Range is from $1800-$2600 (Mild to Wild) and are custom built to your HP/TQ specifications. This way, you have a transmission (with TQ Converter) that match the performance level of the vehicle.
